CF-How did you get into cosplay, who did you portray first, and why?

I got into cosplay shortly before my first convention – WonderCon Anaheim 2013. I had been in a few different groups that had cosplayers in it (Nerdy Girls, Legion of Nerds, etc) and finally decided to try it out. My first cosplay was an Assassin from the Assassins Creed series. While I’d only played one of the games a little bit, I still liked the style of clothing the characters wore. My cosplay was definitely note top-notch. Not only did I buy most of the pieces from the thrift store (which I still like to do), but my cape was hand-sewn, probably has my blood all over it, and more. However, I do have to say that I had a ton of fun trying to create my first cosplay, and looking back on it now I am so thrilled at how far I’ve come since then.

CF-What’s the best part of cosplay?

For me, the best part of cosplaying is being able to take a character you love, and bring it to life. For me, I’ve always known the characters I was cosplaying, and regardless of whether I made them spot-on, or put my own spin on the character, I’ve always had fun doing it. Having fun is also one of the best parts.

CF-If you could be any super hero or villain who would you be and why?

I honestly had to sit here and think about this question for a long time. There are so many different characters that I admire, both male and female, for many different reasons. Wonder Woman is strong, and brave. Batman shows us that you don’t have to be super to be a hero. Even the villains have their admiring traits: cunning, smart, strong, etc. I don’t think that I could pick just one character to portray….I like them all.

CF-If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and what would you say to them?

Wow. I don’t know. For a long while I wanted to be able to meet one of our past Presidents: Lincoln, or Washington. I wanted to see what made them such great leaders, and try to see where our politicians have gone wrong since. I’ve also wanted to be able to meet Albert Einstein, and see just how smart he really is. I’ve wanted to meet Beethoven and other classical composers, because I studied music in high school and wanted to learn more about them. I’ve also wanted to meet actors and actresses that have passed away. However, now I could say that I would definitely want to meet Robin Williams. While he had some emotional issues, which ultimately led to his death, I’d like to know more about the person he was, the non-profit causes he was interested in, and more. I think that taking the time to get to know someone, aside from the fame and fortune, could have been the thing that helped them not end their life. While it wouldn’t change things now, it would still be nice to know who he was.

CF-What’s your favorite sci-fi movie and what captivates about the plot?

More favorites? I honestly can’t pick just one! I like the classics: Alien, Terminator, Star Wars, Star Trek, the Matrix, etc. I also like newer sci-fi like the newer Star Trek movies, X-men and more. I’m excited for the next Star Wars (Ep. 7) and Jurassic Park movies.

CF-What’s the craziest thing a fan sent you or requested?

To be honest, naked images. But those people get blocked, or banned, from my page.

CF-What sidekick would you hire to be your personal assistant and why?

I have a hard time not doing things myself, so I think that having an assistant is actually something I wouldn’t do.

CF-What character intimidates the heck out of you, why, and when will you attempt take the challenge to portray them?

I don’t think there are any characters that specifically intimidate me. In the way of cosplay, I would think that characters that have a lot of armor or props would intimidate me because there is a ton of chances to make mistakes when building those armor or props.

CF-Do you know a lot about the series you cosplay?

I currently only cosplay characters I know, and the series they are a part of. That’s the fun in it to me: bringing your favorite characters to life.

CF-What’s your favorite comic con to attend and what makes it so special?

I have a lot of fun at all of the conventions I go to. WonderCon would have to be my favorite though, because it was the first con I attended.

CF-What comic con’s are definitely attending this year?

Well, I am definitely going to be at Star Wars Celebration: Anaheim, WonderCon, SDCC, Phoenix CC, C4, Amazing Las Vegas, and maybe one or two more. 🙂

CF-What’s one thing you wish fans wouldn’t do?

Fans are fans: they support you, say nice things, etc. If they degrade you, make fun of you, et cetera…then they aren’t really your fans.

CF-Who was your favorite character to portray and what rocked about it?

So far, my favorite has been my Greaser Harley. I have loved Harley Quinn for as long as I can remember. I have many collectibles of her figure, comics, et cetera. This particular cosplay rocked because I was taking my favorite character, and putting my own spit on it. I mashed her with the Greaser style from the movie “Grease.” My boyfriend and I made the hammer all from scratch, I designed the cosplay myself, and we took it and ran. It was a lot of fun.

CF-How do you keep cosplay fun?

I don’t let the little things get to me, and I don’t do things I don’t want to do. I cosplay who I want, I don’t let others dictate my appearance, and I just have fun. I work on cosplays in my own time, rather than make deadlines and rush things.

CF-Where can new fans go to follow you?

I am on instagram at erindeborbacosplay, twitter @legionladyerin, my facebook is Erin DeBorba Cosplay, and I’ll have a website up soon.

CF-Other than this interview, what’s the craziest thing you agreed to do?

Nothing, really. 🙂 I’m kind of a goody-two-shoes I guess. I spend most of my time doing things to better myself: my schooling, home life, cosplay, et cetera…so I don’t do a lot of “crazy” things.

CF-In your opinion what’s the meaning of life?

Have fun and stop worrying about what others think. 🙂
