2015 Wizard World blows into the Windy City

Chicago Comic Con

On August 20th through the 23rd the “Windy City” Chicago welcomed Sci-Fi, Cosplay and Comic Book fans of all ages to the 2015 Wizard World Comic Con Convention at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. The festivities kicked off with  the “Kick off the Con” event Wednesday night at Level 257. Level 257  is a new multifaceted urban-chic space where food takes center stage and play is encouraged. Based on the Pac Man arcade game, Level 257 offers a hip, updated lounge atmosphere with all the fun of a top notch bowling alley and Arcade.  Anyone who is a fan of the 80’s arcade games will love Level 257.

During the “Kick off the Con” event, press and fans were treated to drinks and appetizers and guest appearances by Michael Rooker (from Guardians of the Galaxy and The Walking Dead),  Barry Bostwick (from Rocky Horror Picture Show and Spin City) and Chris 51 & Josh Bodwell (from the A&E show Epic Ink). The evening was capped off by an old school/new school tournament of Pac Man Battle Royal, the first four player competitive Pac-Man arcade game with a cannibalistic twist: Eliminate your opponents by eating them and the last Pac-Man standing wins the game.  It was truly a fun night and a great way to start off the convention.

Hundreds of thousands of fans packed the convention center during the four day event, and as usual the costumes did not disappoint. The Chicago fans (as well as neighboring state’s fans) did an awesome job putting their passion and love for Cosplay on display. I’m still blown away by the incredible work and detail some fans put into their costumes. Everywhere I looked there was one great costume after another. Everyone appeared to be having a great time taking pictures and talking to one another. I’m always impressed at how total strangers walk into these conventions and interact with one another as if they’ve known each other for years.

As well as the great costumes, there were 4 huge convention halls packed with vendors and artist selling anything imaginable. Row after row of fan wear, props, costumes, toys, collectables and of course fantastic art work. It was nearly impossible to see it all. There were also numerous convention rooms with panels and guest appearances  throughout the four days. Stars like Jeremy Renner (from The Avengers), Norman Reedus (from TV’s The Walking Dead) and Stephen Amell (from TV’s Arrow) were on hand to answer questions and take photos. This year’s Comic con also featured the 2nd annual Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Festival, so there were plenty of fans decked out in their best spooky Halloween attire.

This year’s Chicago Wizard World Comic convention was truly every fans greatest fantasy. From the fans that I spoke to attending the convention, I was told the Chicago convention gets bigger and better each year and they were looking forward to attending in 2016. This is one fan that will surely be in line to attend in 2016 as well.
